Dickinson resident running for Senate

Alan Fehr

Alan Fehr of Dickinson announced Friday he will seek the Republican endorsement for the District 36 state senate seat, according to a press release. Fehr is the first person from either party to state his intentions for the senate race in the district.

"We have a lot of potential out here in terms of economic development," he said. "I want to see that progress in a reasonable and more comprehensible manner."

Fehr said he wasn't planning to enter politics at this point in time, but District 36 Sen. George Nodland's decision to retire at the end of his term prompted him to move up his schedule. Fehr added he will be looking to other state officials for guidance in his campaign.

"Being a veteran, I think, makes a difference to many people," he said in regards to his military service. Fehr added that his business background and leadership skills will also help win votes.

Nodland said he was happy to hear that Fehr was running and that he would be a "good" candidate.
