Delegation calls for military academy applications

Sens. John Hoeven and Heidi Heitkamp and Rep. Kevin Cramer announced in a press release that they are currently accepting applications from North Dakota students interested in serving their country by attending one of the nation's military service academies.

The North Dakota delegation encourages all interested North Dakota high school graduates or graduating seniors to apply through one of their offices to receive a nomination to one of the military service academies.

Applicants must be at least 17 years old but not past their 23rd birthday on July 1, 2014, and must also be U.S. citizens, unmarried and have no dependents.

They must also demonstrate excellence in academics and leadership. Application materials are available online through the senators' and representative's official websites.

All three of North Dakota's congressional offices will accept applications for the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y., the Air Force Academy near Colorado Springs, Colo., the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., and the Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, N.Y.

The application deadline is Oct. 11. Military academy interviews with the delegation are scheduled for Nov. 5 in Bismarck and Nov. 6 in Fargo.

The delegation will make its nominations to the military academies in late November.
