Eastbound I-94 at Richardton open after morning accident

The eastbound lane of Interstate 94 was shut down at Richardton for more than five hours Monday morning after the driver of a semi truck collided with the right-side guard rail and cement support structure beneath an overpass about four miles east of Richardton. The interstate reopened shortly after 9 a.m.

Chad Bowman, 39, of Salt Lake City, was driving a 2012 Peterbilt truck from Watford City to Hebron when he allegedly fell asleep at the wheel, according to Sgt. Shawn Skogen of the North Dakota Highway Patrol. Bowman was injured and transported to St. Joseph's Hospital in Dickinson.

Cars were detoured off the interstate to Highway 10 from Richardton to Hebron. Trucks had to be detoured south to Highway 8, east on Highway 21 and north on Highway 49 back to I-94. 

The crash remains under investigation.
