Oregon woman struck by truck, killed on Highway 85

ALEXANDER -- Linda Southerland, 67, of Foster, Ore., died after a commercial truck struck her on Thursday morning, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol.

Gregory Kent, 44, of Dana Point, Calif., was driving a 2007 Peterbilt Conventional Truck southbound on U.S. Highway 85, about 10 miles north of Williston. Kent saw Southerland standing in the southbound lane, facing away from him. Kent swerved left to avoid hitting her, but the truck’s right corner struck Southerland at 1:10 a.m., according to the report.

Southerland was found in the west ditch of Highway 85. The truck was moderately damaged.

The accident caused the closure of Highway 85 for a couple of hours.

Vehicle overturns near Williston, man charged with DUI

WILLISTON -- An Arkansas man was charged with driving under the influence Wednesday morning after driving a vehicle that overturned about 10 miles west of Williston, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol.

At 12:05 a.m., Austin Hobbs, 31, of Palmer, Ark., failed to negotiate a turn in a 1999 Ford F-250, causing the vehicle to run off U.S. Highway 85. The Ford struck a road sign, then hit a power pole, and overturned.

Both Hobbs and his passenger, David Roseburg, 40, of Kaysville, Utah, were injured. Emergency crews freed Hobbs from the driver’s seat and he was flown by air ambulance to Trinity Hospital in Minot. An ambulance took Roseburg to Mercy Medical Hospital in Williston, according to the report. The Ford was totalled in the accident.
