Feds arrest Jamaican DJ in alleged North Dakota phone scam

GRAND FORKS — Federal law enforcement officials say they are inching closer to justice for North Dakotans victimized by a network of scam artists.

A well-known Jamaican disc jockey, Deon-ville Antonio O’Hara, was recently arrested on charges of conspiracy, wire fraud and money laundering conspiracy.

Tim Purdon, the U.S. attorney for North Dakota, is prosecuting O’Hara along with 25 others suspected of being involved with lottery scams.

The conspirators would allegedly call elderly people and tell them they won a large sum of money. Then they would persuade victims to pay phony fees to receive supposed winnings.
