Mets officially announce Frenzel signing

The New York Mets officially announced Thursday that they have signed first baseman Cole Frenzel, a 2009 Dickinson High School graduate.

The Mets drafted the University of Arizona first baseman in the seventh round of June's MLB first-year player draft. New York Mets beat writer Adam Rubin first reported the official announcement Thursday.

The Dickinson Press confirmed with Frenzel on Saturday, July 2, that he had signed a minor league deal with the team with a signing bonus worth mid-six figures.

Frenzel hit .346 with three home runs, 48 RBI for Arizona this spring and was an all-Pac 10 selection, leading the conference with a .461 on-base percentage.

The club said Frenzel will be assigned to a minor league team within a week. Frenzel told The Dickinson Press he believes that team will be the Single-A Brooklyn Cyclones.
