Murphy moves closer to Badlands Circuit title in steer wrestling

MINOT -- On the second night of the Badlands Circuit Finals rodeo, defending Badlands steer wrestling champion Seth Murphy took another step closer to in winning his event for the second year in a row.

The South Heart cowboy turned his steer in a time of 3.9 seconds, splitting the win with fellow bulldogger Tyler Haugen of Sturgis, S.D.

Murphy is about $4,000 ahead of the second-place Kody Woodward in the year-end title chase, but he knows the championship isn't sewn up yet.

"I tell you what, when you're going against guys like this, it's never wrapped up," Murphy said. "There's still two rounds to go."

Tonight is the third of four go-rounds for the Badlands Circuit Finals. The rodeo begins at 6:30 pm, and the Sunday matinee is the final go-round.
