Scoring in bunches is something that happens rarely in hockey.

The Bismarck Century boys hockey team scored three goals in a span of 1 minute during the second period en route to defeating Dickinson 12-1 on Friday in a West Region game at the Dickinson Recreation Center.

"It's always fun to score in bunches," Century head coach Troy Olson said. "You can't rely on that, but the guys are able to feed off each other a little bit."

Dickinson head coach Tom Folske said his team started out a little sluggish, but was able to get better as the game went along.

"Overall we played hard," Folske said. "The second and third periods were better than the first period. We were skating and doing our jobs."

The Midgets (1-4, 0-3 West) showed spots of brilliance when sophomore Alex Turcotte scored his first varsity goal in the second period. Senior Dan Sullivan came on for the assist.

"It felt really good," Turcotte said. "We lost, but that's OK. It pushed our team harder."

Dickinson chances didn't start there.

Freshman Kass Dvorak had a breakaway at the 14:30 mark of the first period. His shot sailed right into the chest of Century's goalie Ryan Hanson.

"I thought we were going to surprise them in the first period with Kass Dvorak having a couple breakaways," Folske said.

Hanson saw six shots on goal, while Dickinson's goalie Matt Porter faced 43 shots on goal.

"They (Century) had a lot of shots outside," he said. "They didn't have many second chances."

Patriots senior Jacob Dehne had a hat trick and knocked in the first goal at the 4:34 mark in the first period.

Century's offensive attack had nine different players score goals. The only other player to score multiple goals for the Patriots (5-0-1, 4-0-0 West) was freshman Cyril Nagurski.

"It's actually really nice to see the different scoring," Olson said. "It's always nice to get production from all your lines."

Olson did want to give respect to Dickinson for never stopping despite the score being in the Patriots favor.

"One thing Dickinson did is they kept going," he said. "It's tough in that situation."

The Midgets look forward when they host Hazen-Beulah at 4:30 p.m.

"Hazen's got a good club," Folske said. "If we play like we did in the second and third periods, I think it will be a good game."
