Steele, Lazaro win titles

JAMESTOWN -- Dickinson State wrestlers Brad Steele and Bryden Lazaro each won their weight class Saturday at the Jimmie Open.

Steele picked up two pins at 149 pounds, including a title-match pin of Chase Burns from the University of Great Falls, Mont. in 6 minutes, 52 seconds.

Steele has 19 pins, just two shy of the DSU single-season record of 21 held by three-time national champion Justin Schlecht. DSU has one dual, the NAIA North Region tournament and the NAIA national tournament remaining.

"He could do it though," DSU head coach Thadd O'Donnell said. "He wrestled tough today. He looked good."

Lazaro won two matches and took the 125-pound title when Danny Luttrell of Great Falls injury defaulted to him.

Jose Lopez (285) finished third after falling in his opening match. Alex Buelena (157) was fourth. Adam Orton (141), Skyler Carroll (197) and Colton Hill (285) each finished fifth. Nestor Ruleas (149) took sixth.
