Krieg lifts DHS with late jumper

BELCOURT -- The Dickinson High boys basketball team has the ability to jump out to a big lead. But, the Midgets don't quite yet know to maintain that lead.

Jordan Krieg made a game-winning jumper with 2 seconds left on the clock to lead Dickinson over West Region opponent Turtle Mountain 63-61 on Saturday.

"The good news is, a win is a win is a win," Dickinson head coach John Wilson said with a laugh. "With this young group of kids, we need any positive reinforcement that we can get."

The Midgets got out to a 20-point lead in the first half, but took their foot off the gas after taking a 38-22 lead into halftime.

"We get a little complacent and we lose focus," Wilson said. "We're showing our inexperience. That's something we have to get better at. We did get looks of great looks on the court."

Krieg, a senior post, had 14 points and nine rebounds, while Jaden Kudrna had a team-high 18 points. Mark Erickson added 11 points. Dylan Skabo had eight points and five steals.

Tristan Keplin had a game-high 27 points and 12 rebounds for the Braves (0-2, 0-2 West).

The Midgets continue their season with the home opener against Dawson County (Glendive, Mont.) at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Wilson hopes the win gives the team confidence, but also shows them not to let their foot off the gas.

"We are going to continually hammer the fundamentals," Wilson said. "Our kids goals is to make it through December with an undefeated record, but we've got a lot of fundamental things that need to happen to make that happen."
