Atkins, Miller solidify spots at World Championships

NASSAU, Bahamas -- Two Dickinson State University alumni are headed to the track and field World Championships after big performances at the Bahamas Nationals over the weekend.

Ramon Miller won the 400 meters with a time of 44.93 seconds, one of the top 20 times in the world this year. Miller is part of the 1,600 relay team that is already qualified for the World Championships, which are scheduled for August in Moscow.

Derrick Atkins won the 100 meters with a time of 10.2 seconds, which is below the B standard. He had previously qualified for the world championships with a time of 10.06.

Former DSU athlete Delron Innis won the shot put (45 feet, 7 inches) hammer throw (137-1).

Trevor Berry, an Olympic high jump qualifier, sat out the nations with an injury.
