Killdeer's Blankenship sits in 4th
ROCK SPRINGS, Wyo. -- For the first time after either a morning or evening performance at the National High School Finals Rodeo, Killdeer's Riley Blankenship isn't sitting at the top of the bull riding standings.
He is currently in fourth.
However, the cowboy, Jess Lockwood of Volborg, Mont., has two qualified rides, whereas Blankenship only has one after Thursday morning's performance at the NHSFR.
Lockwood has a combined score of 156 points, while Blankenship's single ride is 79. The Killdeer cowboy needs a score of 78 in order to claim back his place at the top of the standings.
Dallas Rohrig of Rifle, Colo., is currently runner-up with a score of 154, while Bryce Burnell of Arvada, Wyo., is third with 143. Lockwood, Rohrig and Burnell are the only three bull riders with multiple scores.
After completing her first round of pole bending in 20.542 seconds on Wednesday, Leah Voigt finished her second round on Thursday in 21.018 seconds, which was among top 10 times of the round.
Her two attempts gave the Beulah cowgirl a total average time of 41.56, leaving her 12th after Thursday.
Sam Jorgenson went down only one position on Thursday but she remains in the top 10 in breakaway roping.
The cowgirl from Watford City was 8th in the event with an overall time of 7.43 seconds, but she was knocked down to 9th after Thursday's competitions.
Dickinson's Boyd Stroh is still holding onto a top spot among the saddle bronc riders. The cowboy is still 25th for a 44-point ride despite having not gone for a second round.
Layton Bohlman and Ryder Bohlman from Richardton also held onto a top-25 place for their 9.79 team roping time.
The NHSFR continues for the fourth-day of compeition beginning at 9 a.m. The rodeo concludes on Saturday with a morning and evening performance.
