Century sweeps Dickinson

BISMARCK -- Bismarck Century, the defending Class A state volleyball champions, didn't waste any time sweeping Dickinson High on Tuesday night.

The Patriots defeated the Midgets 25-15, 25-20, 25-7. Dickinson head coach Jay Schobinger thought his team played well in light of facing one of the best teams in the state.

"We hung in for the first two sets and did a lot of good things ... During the third set, the gal jumped served and got hot and we couldn't get out of it," Schobinger said. "It's early and you don't see that very often, but the next time around we'll obviously handle it better. But overall, even though it's a loss we played one of the best teams in the state and we battled with them through the first two."

Keely Hitchens led the Midgets with nine kills, while junior Marissa Schroeder followed with 3 kills and led with eight assists.

Bismarck Century's Katie Scherr dominated with 13 kills. Jordyn Jossart supplied 18 digs and five kills, while Shay Bense served up 27 assists.

The Midgets continue their season hosting Minot High at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
