Jahner wins medalist, DHS finishes third
MANDAN -- Though the Dickinson High girls golf team's streak of three straight invitational wins was broken, Rachel Jahner won medalist for the fourth time this season.
Jahner shot an even par 72 and helped the Midgets take third with a 357 on Tuesday at Prairie West Golf Course.
"She is hitting the ball well and she hardly ever misses a fairway," Dickinson head coach Sara Berglund said. "Her game is phenomenal. Right now, she is playing really well and I'm really happy for her. She's one of those who we can count on every tournament to be there, be a good leader on our team and help our team out in very big way."
Mandan won their home invitational rattling off a 351, while Bismarck Century came in runner-up with a 353.
The Midgets also received scores from Riana Cooper with an 84, Rachel Lantz with a 92 and Sydney Charchenko and Katherine Kessel each had a 107.
"Right now, I'm very pleased with how we are playing," Berglund said. "The only thing that kind of hurt our team score today was that we had to take a score in the 100s. We have to be able to get all four scores in 100 or less. That's what's going to help our team out."
Dickinson has nearly a week off before traveling to the Jamestown Country Club for the West Region tournament beginning at 9 a.m. on Monday.
"A lot of our focus is going to be on our short game," Berglund said. "Ultimately, that's where the team is going to score. Right now, most of them are pleased how they are hitting the ball and now it's about scoring. That comes in with the short game big time."
