Argos drop DSU in straight sets

GREAT FALLS, Mont. -- The successes the Dickinson State volleyball team had against Mayville State on Tuesday didn't transfer into Friday's game against the University of Great Falls.

The Blue Hawks fell to the Argos in straight sets 25-15, 25-14, 25-11 but head coach Jon Stenman said the lopsided scores don't properly reflect their actual performance.

"We're not really playing bad, we're just not playing well enough," Stenman said. "Our passing game was just a little off which made our offense a little off, which means we had to be really mentally focused to give ourselves an opportunity offensively which didn't happen. We never had a chance to really get into a rhythm offensively."

Senior outside hitter Linaya Schroeder was the only player to hit positively on the night (.200) and also contributed four kills and three digs.

The Blue Hawks are back in action facing Rocky Mountain College, a team which knocked off top conference contenders Lewis-Clark State College and Carroll College in its last two matches, in Billings, Mont., today. DSU faced Rocky Mountain earlier this season and knows the team is tall and hits hard, but the Bears' defense isn't very strong. Stenman said the key to keeping up with the Bears is to play smart volleyball and learn to adjust to their offense and their defense.

"If we can play smart offensively, we played them very well defensively last time we're going to find a way to get some offense," Stenman said. "If we can offense and make them think about what they're doing them we have a shot."
