Roughriders handle Copper in Billings

BILLINGS, Mont. — Normally if a baseball team wants a quick start, it will scored a couple runs.

The Dickinson Roughriders American Legion took the saying to a whole new level.

Dickinson scored 16 runs in the first inning en route to an 18-0 win over Copper, Colo., to begin the four-day Goldsmith Tournament.

The Roughriders’ starting pitcher Brett Schweitzer threw five innings for the win.

As for the offense, Dickinson’s Tanner Hopfauf hit his second home run of the season, while Luke Herauf and Michael McChesney each had a double.

With the win, Dickinson improved to 12-2. The Roughriders continue the Goldsmith Tournament playing Gillette, Wyo., at 2 p.m. today.
