High School Athlete of the week - Joe Bates
Joe Bates, sophomore running back on the Dickinson Trinity football team, scored three touchdowns for the Titans in their 47-6 win over Stanley high school in the first round of Class A playoffs on Saturday, Oct. 21. He scored off rushes of 3 and 44 yards and after catching a 9-yard pass from Trinity quarterback Aric Knopik. Bates ended the day with 51 yards on the ground.
DP: How long have you been playing football and what is your favorite part of the sport?
JB: "I have been playing football for five or so years and my favorite part about football is probably defense because you really get to lay the wood on kids if you want to."
DP: What kind of goals do you have for the rest of the season?
JB: "We want to make it to the state championship and play 100 percent all day long."
DP: Are you involved in any other school activities?
JB: "I'm involved in FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) and also track and field."
DP: What's one thing that most people wouldn't know about you?
JB: "That I like to sing."
DP: If you could have one superpower, what would it be?
JB: "Invisibility, for sure, so you can do whatever you want without people seeing."
DP: Who has been your biggest inspiration to succeed?
JB: "The pro player Luke Kuechly, he's a linebacker for the Panthers. He's a really big inspiration to me."
