High school athlete of the week - Sarah Mayer
Sarah Mayer, a senior outside hitter on the Dickinson Trinity volleyball team, led the Titans with 19 kills against Heart River on Thursday, Nov. 9, helping her team win the Region 7 tournament with a 3-0 sweep of the Cougars. She also added ten digs, a block and an ace.
In the semifinal versus New England, Mayer led the team with 19 digs and also earned six kills and an ace.
In the quarterfinal game against Bowman County she earned a team-leading 10 digs as well as two aces and one assist.
DP: How long have you been playing volleyball and what's your favorite part about it?
SM: "I've been involved in volleyball since my fifth grade year and my favorite part is just being a part of a team and being a part of something bigger than myself."
DP: What's your favorite class?
SM: "I think my favorite class would have to be math because I like the atmosphere and I like the challenge of learning something new every day."
DP: Are you involved in any other activities at school?
SM: "I am in student council, prom committee, assistant chaplains and I'm also in track."
DP: If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life what would you choose?
SM: "I'm big on carbs so I'd for sure eat mashed potatoes every day for the rest of my life."
DP: If you could have one superpower what would you choose?
SM: "I would choose invisibility just so I could go everywhere and no one would notice."
DP: Who has been your biggest inspiration to succeed?
SM: "My biggest inspiration in volleyball is for sure my coach just because seeing how much she loves the game and how much she enjoys it always motivated me to work hard and be better."
