Dickinson State Athlete of the Week - Marcus White
DSU athlete of the week: Marcus White, a senior guard/forward on the Dickinson State men's basketball team led the Blue Hawks in points in each other its three games this week. White scored a career-high 32 points in DSU's win over Yellowstone Christian College on Monday, Nov. 27 and 23 points in the 81-71 win over Valley City State on Friday, Dec. 1. White also added 17 points in the team's loss to Waldorf University (Iowa) on Saturday, Dec. 2.
DP: Where are you from and why did you choose DSU?
MW: "I'm from Milwaukee, Wisc. and I chose DSU because I thought it was a good place to get better and further my career."
DP: What are some personal and team goals you have for the season?
MW: "Some of the team goals are just to win as many games as possible, play good and hopefully get to the nationals. For personal goals I want to try and average a double-double."
DP: How long have you been playing basketball and what's your favorite part about it?
MW: "I've been playing basketball for my whole life since I was big enough. My dad was a real sports fan so as soon as I got old enough I started playing ball. I was probably five years old and I had a basketball court in my backyard. I like to have fun and meet a lot of people while travelling."
DP: Where would you like to travel to in the world?
MW: "(I'd like to go) to China, Europe, maybe Spain."
DP: If you could have any superpower what would you choose?
MW: "I'd probably want super strength. I could pick up anything like Superman."
DP: Who has been your biggest inspiration to succeed?
MW: "Probably my dad. He's one of the reasons I decided to play basketball and he raised me. I want to make him proud."
