DSU handles University of Regina

REGINA, Saskatchewan — The Dickinson State wrestling team competed in its first dual since its 30-12 loss to University of Minnesota-Moorhead on Nov. 21 and performed far better.

The Blue Hawks dominated the University of Regina 37-8 on Wednesday.

In the 133 and 197 weight classes, senior Mack Chambers and junior Tyler Brown recorded the team’s only pins on the night but early on in their respective matches. There was a changeup at heavyweight for the Blue Hawks with senior Brian Klevis out after injuring his knee Saturday at the University of Jamestown Open. Head coach Thad O’Donnell said it was a sprained MCL and is questionable for next week. Instead, junior Meyer Bohn stepped in his place and won 8-0 over Cole Veit but lost 5-4 to Issac Luciale in his exhibition match.

O’Donnell said he was quite impressed with junior Garrett Traylor’s performance Wednesday. Traylor wrestled in the 149 weight class and beat Regina’s Dana Beauchart by a tech fall.

“We wrestled wells end with all the distractions of going across the border,” O’Donnell said. “It was a first for most of our team. I was impressed with Garrett Traylor and his attack on his feet and actually the whole team was very aggressive … Great job (Wednesday) with a win in the dual.”

The Blue Hawks come back to the mat Dec. 6 for the Battle of the Rockies Duals in Great Falls, Mont., followed by the University of Great Falls Open on Dec. 7.
