Cougars rip home runs, down DSU

CALDWELL, IDAHO — The Cal State San Marcos (Calif.) softball team supplied the power, but Dickinson State couldn’t answer back.

The Cougars used a pair of home runs from Tani Leasau and Olivia Lucatuorto to take a 6-1 win over the Blue Hawks on Monday during the 2014 NAIA Opening Round at College of Idaho.

Lucatuorto ripped a three-run home run in the second inning, which brought home Breana Reyes and Mallory Campbell.

DSU (39-14) managed to answer in the fourth inning when Kailey Olcott ripped a RBI single to score Regan Lawrence.

However, the Cougars (39-7-1) responded with a two-run home run in the sixth inning. CSSM finished the scoring in the seventh when Caylyn Rodriguez ripped a RBI double to deep right to score Brittney Guy.

Lawrence was charged with the loss after going seven innings, allowing seven runs on six hits and striking out one. The Cougars’ Katie Wilkinson threw five innings, allowed one run on three hits and struck out one. Ashley Dagenais pitched the final two innings for CSSM.
