Vikings sweep Blue Hawks

VALLEY CITY — The Dickinson State volleyball team led for most of the opening set against North Star Athletic Association rival Valley City State, but the Vikings took over after tying the Blue Hawks at 16 points each.

The Vikings went on to win the first set 25-19 and sweep the Blue Hawks, earning wins by margins of 25-23 and 25-19 in the later sets.

Sophomore Taylor Sharp led the Vikings with 10 kills, four aces and six digs. Junior setter Leah Ruter added a team-best 23 assists as well as seven digs.

While the Blue Hawks never held a lead in the second set, they kept pace with the Vikings, never allowing the home team to stretch its lead to more than three points. The Hawks lost the close set 25-23, the closest margin of the evening. The third set played out similarly to the first, with the Vikings holding a two or three point lead throughout. They won 25-19 with a four-point run after leading 21-19.

Junior Kylie Hadley led the Blue Hawks with seven kills. The outside hitter also added two blocks.
