Beulah’s Schmidt qualifies for state, Trinity takes third

BEULAH — Beulah’s Michael Schmidt is the latest addition out of the Region 5 golf ranks to qualify for the state meet on Tuesday, May 15.

In a individual state qualifier held at the Black Sands Golf Course, Schmidt was on top of the leaderboard with a low score of 72.

The Miners senior was the lone golfer to punch his ticket on Tuesday, joining senior teammate Jase Sailer, Western Morton County eighth-grader Gehrig Geiss and the Heart River trio of seniors Trace Jacobson, Jayden Ewoniuk and junior Jett Mattson as state qualifiers.

The Cougars won the last meet prior to the regional tournament, taking the team prize with a combined score of 309. Beulah finished 13 shots back in second place while Dickinson Trinity claimed third.

The Titans, along with Western Morton County, Bowman County and Killdeer were separated by only seven strokes.

The Region 5 Regional Tournament will take place on Thursday, May 17 from the Heart River Golf Course.
