Mandan holds off Dickinson in third period

MANDAN — The Mandan boys hockey team scored three straight goals before Dickinson attempted a comeback.

The Braves held off the Midgets for a 3-2 West Region win on Thursday.

Jared Walters scored the team’s opening goal, while Trever Leingang tallied the final two. Leingang assisted Walters opening. Aric Riopelle came on for the assist on Leingang’s two goals and Carter Hanson had two assists.

Dickinson’s Michael McChesney scored the team’s first goal at the 3 minutes, 47 seconds into the third period. Alex Turcotte scored the game’s final goal with less than seven minutes to play.

Sawyer Schmidt collected the win for the Braves, while Brett Schweitzer was tagged with the loss. Schmidt made 30 saves and Schweitzer had 23.

The Midgets continue their season traveling to West Region opponent Minot at 7 p.m. Saturday.
