Minot uses trio to beat Dickinson

MINOT — In the first three games of the season, the Dickinson High boys basketball team has found itself in periodic shooting lulls.

Minot — on the other hand — didn’t have a problem shooting the ball in the second half en route to a 67-47 West Region win over Dickinson on Saturday.

“I’ve been proud of the way the boys have played in all three games,” Dickinson head coach John Wilson said. “They played hard and the score doesn’t show how hard our kids played and the heart that they have. We are just struggling scoring right now. We are just going through trials right now where we can’t score.

“When the lulls come, you have to very smart and that’s where the experience comes. We are getting a lot of experience right now. We had a very tough start to the season. It was three road games against three very tough teams. Ultimately, we are learning.”

At halftime, the Majettes took a 34-26 lead going into halftime. Minot finished the game on a 33-21 run.

Minot used the trio of Colter Hustad, Braydon Lund and Kolton Larson, who all scored in double digits, combined for 38 points.

For the Midgets (0-3), Luke Herauf led the team with 19 points, while Mark Erickson added 14. Parker Egli supplied six points and five rebounds.

Dickinson continues its season after the holiday break hosting Williston at 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 4. Wilson said the team is going to get back into the swing of the basketball season grind, but he wants his players to spend quality time with family.

“We are going to be out of the gym a little bit with the way that Christmas falls,” he said. “We said that we could kind get it and do a little shooting on their own. But, basketball is a game and mostly important right it is about spending and enjoying time with your family. Basketball-wise it’s probably not the best to have a long lull, but family-wise I think it’s a good thing that we should all appreciate.”
