Dickinson High gains confidence at Hawktree
BISMARCK — The Dickinson High boys golf team needed confidence entering the West Region individual qualifier on Monday at Riverwood Golf Course.
The Midgets received the added confidence after posting two scores in the low 80s during the Bismarck St. Mary’s Invitational on Friday at Hawktree Golf Course. “I can tell their confidence is coming back for sure,” Dickinson head coach Sara Berglund said. “They were hitting the ball a lot better. The big thing at Hawktree is the greens. That’s kind of where we had a tough time.”
Dickinson juniors Alex Priebe and Carter Donnan led the team with an 80 and 82, respectively. Tony Kostelecky, a junior, added a 90, while senior Alex Turcotte and freshman Davis Donnan each had a 91. Sophomore Matt Schaefer rounded out the team’s top six with a 95.
As a team, the Midgets finished with a 343. Bismarck Century placed first as a team after scoring a 314. Jamestown came in runner-up (320) and Minot posted a 323. Mandan’s Colton Murphy won medalist after shooting a 76.
Dickinson sets its sights on the individual qualifier on Monday. The top 10 players will receive automatic bids to the state tournament. The West Region Tournament takes place at 9 a.m. on May 27 at the Jamestown Country Club.
“I just told them to be ready for Monday and we have a lot of guys that are going over to play (Riverwood) this weekend,” Berglund said. “I told them to make sure they figure out what clubs they want to hit, landing spots where they want to be on the course, where they want to avoid and things like that.”
