Ryan clips Dickinson in 7th inning for West title

JAMESTOWN — The Dickinson High softball team went down to the wire against top-seeded Minot Ryan.

However, the No. 2 seed Midgets couldn’t pull off an upset against the Lions.

Minot Ryan used a RBI single from Maddie Lipp in the bottom of the seventh inning to take a 1-0 win over Dickinson during the West Region championship game on Saturday.

Dickinson sophomore starting pitcher Madison Jahner kept the hot-hitting Lions in check. Jahner allowed just one hit in the first six innings.

Minot Ryan countered in the pitching circle with Hannah Stewart. The junior went seven scoreless innings, allowed four hits and struck out 10.

Dickinson senior catcher Mackee Hoffmann went 3 for 3, while Riley Cooper was 1 for 3.

In the semifinals, Dickinson handled Jamestown 10-0.

Riana Cooper was 3 for 3 with two RBI. Haley Butterfield pitched the shutout, throwing five innings, allowing one hit and striking out four.

The Midgets scored five runs in the first three innings and put the game away with a five-run fourth.

Avery Privratsky was 1 for 3 and scored a game-high three runs to lead the Midgets. Rachel Silkey and Hoffmann each supplied a pair of hits.

The Midgets will have the West’s No. 2 seed entering the North Dakota Class A state softball team tournament, which begins May 29 in Minot.
