By The Press Staff

CANDO -- Jacob Hagler threw for 226 yards and three first-half touchdowns as No. 5-ranked North Star upended Beach on Saturday afternoon in the first round of the 9-man playoffs.

Daniel Grande had eight receptions for 111 yards, including an 11-yard touchdown in the first quarter, and the Bearcats beat the Buccaneers 36-8.

North Star (8-1), the No. 2 seed from Region 3, led 22-0 at halftime after Hagler found Christian Kvilvang and Alex Weston on 9- and 27-yard TD passes, respectively, in the second quarter.

"From there, it was just an uphill battle," Beach head coach Mike Zier said.

North Star's Colton Braun rushed for 151 yards and two touchdowns on 21 carries. He had scoring runs of 34 and 7 yards in the fourth quarter.

Tyler Steffan got Beach on the board with a 30-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. Steffan had 64 yards rushing on 14 carries to lead the Buccaneers (7-3), the No. 3 seed from Region 4.

"Their defense shut down our offense and we weren't able to keep their offense off the field," Zier said. "... All in all, it was a great year. We're very happy with the year. We just ran into a better team today."
