Morast and his wife, Sarah, will move to Valley City in July after he accepted the assistant to the executive secretary position of the North Dakota High School Activities Association.

“I was pretty excited,” said Morast, who is also the secondary principal at Hettinger. “I’ve always enjoyed athletics and this is a great opportunity for me to be involved in athletics year round. My career decisions have always been based around athletics. This is another golden opportunity to further my career in athletics.”

At Hettinger, Morast has also served on multiple NDHSAA committees and is the president of the North Dakota Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association.

He said it will be hard to leave Hettinger. His plan is to start moving to Valley City in June and begin his duties as assistant to the executive secretary in July.

“It’s going to be tough to leave because we’ve developed a lot of friendships,” he said. “I’ve been here 19 years and that’s a long time. There are definitely going to be things that we are going to miss.”

The position for the assistant to the executive secretary opened after Matthew Fetsch accepted the job of executive secretary in February.

“I’ve known Matt since he’s been an athletic director,” Morast said. “I’ve respected his ability, so I’ve known him quite a long time.”
