Dickinson State Athlete of the Week - Abi Brooks
Abi Brooks and the Dickinson State softball team won the North Star Athletic Association tournament on Monday, May 7.
Brooks, a junior pitcher for the squad, threw the entire final outing in a three-game series against Jamestown, allowing six hits and striking out one in the 1-0 victory.
Over the six postseason games that weekend, Brooks threw 33 innings, including two full games. She allowed 39 hits while dismissing 10 batters. She finishes the season with a 2.44 ERA.
DP: How long have you been playing softball and what is your favorite part?
AB: "I've been playing softball since I was about eight, or seven, actually. My favorite part is the team aspect of it and getting to play with all my friends and everyone else."
DP: Where are you from and why did you choose DSU?
AB: "I'm from Rocklin, California and I chose DSU because of the legacy and because Coach Fleury reached out to me and it just seemed like a really great option."
DP: What is your major?
DP: What is the reason your team won conference, in your opinion?
AB: "Because we came together as a team and we all just really wanted it.
DP: If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?
AB: "In-N-Out (Burger)."
DP: What is your walkup song?
AB: "Glorious (by Macklemore)."
DP: What is the last Netflix of Hulu show you binged?
AB: "Grey's Anatomy."
DP: What or who has been your greatest inspiration to succeed?
AB: "My dad. He's always supported me so much and always been there for me."
