High school athlete of the week - Isaac Ellerkamp
Isaac Ellerkamp, a junior for the Dickinson swim and dive team, was near the top of the charts in many events during the two meets DHS participating in this week. In dual against Bismarck Century on Thursday, Jan. 18, Ellerkamp earned a victory in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:07:58. He also earned second in the 100 butterfly and was a member of a foursome that captured second in the 200 medley relay and 400-yard freestyle relay. Two days later at the Minot Invitational, Ellerkamp third in the 100 breaststroke with a state-qualifying time of one minute and 7.83 seconds. Ellerkamp attends Trinity High School.
DP: How long have you been swimming and what's your favorite part about it?
IE: "I've been swimming for about six years. ... (I enjoy) the challenge and the teamwork."
DP: How'd you get into swimming?
IE: "I just thought it'd be a good thing for me to do during the summer and it just progressed eventually into where I am now."
DP: What are some team goals you guys have this year?
IE: "We want to keep on getting more guys even though it's not as popular as it is in Bismarck and areas like that. We want to keep together the guys we have now and get more guys in and just swim hard."
DP: Any personal goals?
IE: "I've got those down actually. We state qualified in all of the events I've got so far and just be a good team leader."
DP: Are you involved with any other school activities?
IE: "I'm in track and fine arts."
DP: If you could have any superpower what would you choose?
DP: If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life what would you choose?
DP: What's on your playlist?
IE: "Lots of G-Eazy."
DP: Do you guys have any pre-swim rituals?
IE: "We have our cheer and we have pep talks that we do."
DP: Who's been your biggest inspiration to succeed?
IE: "My older brother."
