Eight Midgets swim personal best times at WDA meet

BISMARCK — Swimmer Isaac Ellerkamp was named to the All-Conference swim team when the Dickinson High boys swim and dive team competed in the WDA meet on Saturday at the Bismarck Aquatic Center.

Ellerkamp finished in the top ten in both the 100-yard breastroke and 100-yard butterfly, earning a personal best time of 59.95 seconds in the latter. He also helped the 200 medley and freestyle relay teams finish sixth and fifth, respectively alongside Steven Bratten, Taven Wilson and Garrett Billings.

The Midgets took eighth with a team score of 112 points while Minot took the win with a score of 496.5. Still, more than a handful of other Dickinson swimmers recorder personal best times.

Casey Tuhy cut five seconds off his time in the 200 freestyle in which he finished 29th. He also trimmed a second off his 50-yard freestyle time, taking 37th with a time of 28.88 seconds.

Wilson used his last chance to qualify for the state meet. He swam the 200 freestyle in 2:05.33, finishing 18th and qualifying for the state competition on March 2 and 3 in Fargo.

Trent Irwin also earned a personal best time in the 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke, cutting about half a second off each. He finished 26th and 27th in the events. Irwin also swam on the 400 freestyle relay team which took eighth.

Steven Bratten swam the 50-yard freestyle in 23.44 seconds, earning a personal best time and eighth place.

Jackson Metcalf recorded a personal best time of 1:10.34 in the 100-yard freestyle. Detric Coleman competed in the 100 breaststroke and backstroke, swimming a new best time in each. Luke Heiser also earned a new best time in the 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke.
