Watford City edges Dickinson Trinity in overtime

WATFORD CITY — The Dickinson Trinity boys basketball team took Watford City into overtime, but couldn’t hold on long enough for the win.

The Wolves beat the Titans 56-50 Saturday night but it was no easy win. Both teams were tied 12-12 at the end of the first quarter and Watford City held a one-point lead going into halftime. Trinity was always one step behind and forced overtime after tying 44-44.

Sophomore Willy Jahner scored a game-high 15 points with three 3-pointers and added three steals. Shawn Stolz led the team with six rebounds and had eight points on the night.

Watford City was guided by David Kline, Logan Fettig and Dustin Kleppen, who combined for 36 points. Kleppen finished with eight rebounds and five assists while Kline led the game with seven steals.

The Wolves were 14 for 20 at the free-throw line, while Trinity struggled to get there, making 3 of its 4 shots.

Trinity returns home and hosts Heart River at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Knights of Columbus Activities Center.
