Bighorn sheep from Alberta run to freedom Feb. 12 after being released into the North Dakota Badlands west of Grassy Butte. The North Dakota Game and Fish Department received 24 bighorns from a site in Alberta, with much of the funding provided by the Midwest Chapter of the Wild Sheep Foundation. The bighorns are thriving in their new home, biologists said.

A dead bighorn sheep ram with a radio-collar lays along a busy stretch of U.S. Highway 85 near the North Unit of Theodore Roosevelt National Park. The North Dakota Game and Fish Department recently hired a helicopter crew to relocate sheep from the high-traffic area to a safer part of the Badlands.
