MOORHEAD, Minn. — A Fargo man charged with sex trafficking is accused of harassing his victim to work for him as a prostitute for the past five months, authorities stated in court records filed Thursday. Willie Bernard Navy, 34, was charged in Clay County District Court with three counts of felony second-degree sex trafficking. Police found the woman through her ad on the website backpage.com as part of an unrelated sex trafficking lead they were investigating, court documents state. An undercover police officer arranged to meet her Tuesday at a Moorhead motel room, the complaint states.
FARGO — A Wahpeton man pleaded guilty Wednesday in what the U.S. Attorney’s office believes is North Dakota’s first known case of “sextortion.” Charges filed in U.S. District Court against Dustin Coleman, 22, alleged he threatened underage girls with information gleaned from social media, blackmailing them into sending him sexually explicit photos of themselves. Coleman was also accused of threatening to rape a teenage victim’s younger sister if he didn’t send him a nude photo, according to an affidavit filed in January in U.S.
TOWER CITY — Inside a classroom, the lights are off and it’s a little warm. There’s a PowerPoint presentation on a screen, and a 21-year-old stranger is talking to a high school world history class, citing statistics about the dangers of texting and driving. In 2011, there were 3,331 fatal texting crashes and 387,000 injuries. Twenty-three percent of all auto accidents are related to texting. Then Nick Milbrandt plays the 911 call. On screen, in an image taken from a deputy’s dashboard camera video, his parents are at the scene of a crash on Interstate 94 just west of West Fargo.
FARGO — A federal judge here has ordered a man convicted of possessing child pornography to pay restitution to a victim depicted in the material. It’s the first such order in North Dakota since new guidelines were set earlier this year for determining restitution for victims of child pornography, though it’s not the first time a federal judge here has ordered restitution in a child porn case. Robert Carey Evans, 58, of Waukesha, Wis., was convicted by a federal jury on Oct. 25 on 14 counts of possession of child porn. In February, Evans was sentenced to 10 years in prison. U.S.

FARGO — Two sex offenders who are expecting a child together, and who were accused of absconding, have pleaded guilty. Denise Kelly Gerszewski, 31, and Wesley Owen Gee, 30, both of Fargo, pleaded guilty this week in Cass County District Court to one count of failing to register as a sex offender, a Class C felony. Cass County prosecutor Leah Viste said the sentences are standard in cases in which there’s a limited history of similar offenses on a defendant’s record. Gerszewski and Gee were charged with leaving their Fargo halfway house in May without notifying law enforcement of their where
BISMARCK — North Dakota’s highest court has ruled that the state’s new law criminalizing a driver’s refusal to take a chemical breath test is constitutional. The unanimous decision upholds the change to state drunken-driving laws that some prosecutors have identified as being the most important. Before last July, a driver who refused to take a breath test when he was pulled over by police on suspicion of drunken driving would, at most, lose his license. Under the new law, a refusal carries the same legal weight as a conviction for drunken driving. That automatic consequence was what John S
