FARGO — A 24-year-old who died Sunday, April 30, after crashing his motorcycle into the side of a car at 45th Street and Interstate 94 had a history of reckless driving, including being clocked at 140 mph on a motorcycle on I-94 in Fargo last year. Police on Monday identified Tanner Beighley of Fargo as the driver of the motorcycle that struck a car exiting I-94 at 45th Street at about 5:15 p.m. Sunday. Beighley was taken by ambulance to a hospital, where he died. The driver of the vehicle he struck wasn't seriously injured.
MINOT, N.D. — A Minot driver has been charged with driving under the influence after hitting an occupied school bus near South Prairie School south of Minot. Travis Nabozny, 35, rear-ended the school bus Thursday, April 27 at about 7 p.m. as both vehicles were heading northbound on U.S. Highway 83, according to a North Dakota Highway Patrol report. The school bus had slowed down to turn left off the highway when Nabozny's Chevrolet Camaro struck the back of the bus.
WILLISTON — Snaggers who harvest a paddlefish this season can have the fish cleaned for free by the North Dakota Game and Fish Department. The department announced it will provide a free cleaning service this season after North Star Caviar said it was unable to provide the service this year. North Dakota's paddlefish snagging season opens Monday, May 1, and is scheduled to run through the end of May unless the harvest cap is reached and an early closure is announced.
BISMARCK - Eight Jamaicans charged in an advance fee "lottery scam" are now in custody in the United States after the Jamaican government ordered them extradited, U.S. Attorney for North Dakota Chris Myers announced Thursday, April 27. The eight were arrested in Jamaica more than a year ago and are among 14 people facing federal charges in a wire and mail fraud and money laundering investigation dubbed "Operation Hard Copy," said Myers. The charges allege the scam bilked at least 90 mostly elderly U.S. residents out of more $5.7 million, Myers said.
BISMARCK — North Dakota lawmakers gave final approval to a bill Tuesday, April 25, that directs Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem to attempt to recoup costs associated with the Dakota Access Pipeline protest. The state has spent more than $34 million in costs associated with responding to the months-long protest in Morton County. Language in House Bill 1003, the budget for the Attorney General's Office, directs Stenehjem to "pursue all reasonable and available options" to seek reimbursement for those costs.
MITCHELL, S.D. -- A Mitchell man was has been arrested after police executed a search warrant and found more than 1,000 fentanyl pills and $11,000, state officials announced Tuesday afternoon. According to court documents, police executed a search warrant at 10:35 a.m. Monday at a residence rented by Jacob Davin Hubbs and three other people less than 1,000 feet from a drug-free zone in Dry Run Creek Park.
BISMARCK – North Dakota Supreme Court Justice Carol Ronning Kapsner submitted a notice of resignation on Tuesday, April 25, Gov. Doug Burgum’s office announced. The resignation is effective July 31. Kapsner was appointed to the bench in 1998 and elected to 10-year terms in 2000 and 2010.
Buchanan County, Iowa - TMZ reports former 'Bachelor' Chris Soules is in jail for allegedly running into a tractor trailer, killing the driver, then driving off. The crash happened in Iowa on Monday, April 24 at 8:20 p.m. TMZ reports 35-year-old Chris was driving a Chevy pickup and rear-ended a John Deere, sending it into the ditch. The driver of the John Deere was taken to the hospital where he later died.
REGENT, N.D. -- A 32-year-old Bismarck driver was killed and two female passengers were injured in a rollover crash Sunday afternoon in Adams County in southwestern North Dakota.
DETROIT LAKES — John and Anne Alexander were always together after 64 years of marriage, rarely doing anything without their spouse at their side. "They were just so close," said their daughter, Nancy Alexander. That's why it wasn't exactly a shock to the family that they died together at Ecumen Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes, Anne at 1:45 p.m. Wednesday, April 19, and John at 6:30 a.m. Thursday, April 20. "I think he wanted her to have her own day and then he had his own day, too," said Kate Anderson, one of the couple's six surviving children.
