How good are you at trivia games? Are you usually a winner when you play things like Trivial Pursuit, Wits & Wagers, and Smart Party? You may indeed be, but I’ve got a few facts for you that you probably don’t know. So if you take the time to read this, you might find that you were good at trivia games before, but that you are about to get even better. For example, did you know that all polar bears are left-handed? Or that the cigarette lighter was invented before the match?
Are you an artist? You probably don’t think so, but I’m here to inform you that you can be if you want to be. It’s very easy on the one hand, but also very hard on the other. Most of all, it requires self-discipline. As you know, art is relative and, as it’s said, art’s beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Do you know what an inflation calculator is? Just like it implies, it is something that measures the buying power of the dollar over time. All you have to do is go online to usinflationcalculator.com and enter any two dates, and it’ll tell you how the value of the dollar way back when compares to the value of the dollar today. For example, it shows you that if you purchased something for $20 in 1965, it’d cost you $146 to purchase that same thing today. Or if you purchased something for $20 in 1915, it’d cost you $467 to buy that same thing today. In other words, it’s all relative.
In the end you’ll thank me. Why? It’s because this article might just save your life. Two weeks ago I was in California visiting my son and his fiancé. While there, I also visited my former doctor for some basic medical maintenance and learned about a few of the dangers of everyday life. One of which is your cellphone.
What do you know about license plates? Not much, probably. Even though you think you do because you have to pay for them every year. You might even go so far as to order personalized plates. For example, do you know where the first license plate was issued? It was in Germany in 1896. And do you know which state issued the first plate in the United States? It had to have been Michigan because that’s where all of the automobiles were made, right? It wasn’t.
Did you know that plants are just like us? We are born and immediately need someone to take care of us until we can take care of ourselves. Plants are basically the same way. Seeds are planted and then need to germinate until three big needs are met: water, correct temperature or warmth, and a good location, which means good soil and moisture. Early on, the seedling relies on food stored in the seed itself.
Have you ever seen a barn that is a different color than either red, white or unpainted wood? It looks weird, doesn’t it?
Have times changed? Of course they have. Times always change. The question is what particular chunk of time are you talking about? Or have they really changed? For example, tell...
Wouldn’t you hate to be a teenager again? Because if you were, you’d be nothing more than a blank wall waiting for a tagger to come along. What’s a tagger? In big cities, that’s what they call someone who is addicted to defacing walls, signs, railroad cars, truck trailers and anything else they can put their mark on. It’s a little like being a dog, cat or any animal that feels it necessary to mark its territory. I once had a girlfriend in the Los Angeles basin who worked with paroled taggers. They are a messed-up bunch.
How is your getting going? I mean, how are you doing at getting yours, your part of the world? That’s what life is all about, isn’t it? Getting yours? Getting...
