A jury has found St. Anthony Police officer Jeromino Yanez was reasonable in his decision to fatally shoot Philando Castile during a traffic stop in Falcon Heights last summer. The jury reached its verdict of not guilty on the manslaughter charge as well as the two counts of dangerous discharge of a firearm Friday afternoon after about 30 hours of deliberations that began Monday afternoon. It was delivered in a Ramsey County District Court courtroom packed with family members and friends of both Yanez and Castile.
The Twins have recalled designated hitter/first baseman Kennys Vargas from Triple-A Rochester, the team announced Wednesday. Vargas will replace shortstop Jorge Polanco on the 25-man active roster. Polanco has been placed of the bereavement list following the death of his grandfather. Vargas, optioned to make room for an emergency pitcher on May 29, was 4 for 22 with a home run and three RBIs in seven games with the Red Wings. He has appeared in 24 with the big-league club this season, hitting .258 (23-for-89) with five home runs and 19 RBIs.
BURNSVILLE - A 27-year-old man is dead after a forklift mishap at a Menards store in Burnsville last week. Alec Michael Saunders of Burnsville suffered blunt force chest injuries Friday at the store, the Hennepin County medical examiner’s office said Tuesday. He was pronounced dead shortly before 9 a.m. Friday at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis. The store is located on Minnesota 13, west of Interstate 35W.
