BOTTINEAU, N.D. -- A man charged with killing two fellow employees of a hog farm near Souris in far northern North Dakota is expected to plead guilty to murder charges Monday. Jeremy Isaac Rodriguez Rios, 19, was charged with two counts of murder, both Class AA felonies, in Bottineau County District Court after police say he confessed to fatally shooting Brian Story, 37, and Christopher Sluder, 50, on March 24 at Turtle Mountain Pork, a commercial hog operation where all three men worked, according to court records.

One of the first female firefighters on the Grand Forks Fire Department in the mid-1990s, Kelli Flermoen will mark another milestone by becoming one of the first female fire chiefs in the state, a position she has always aspired to become, though she didn't always know she would achieve it.
GRAND FORKS — Police identified the University of North Dakota police officer Wednesday who shot a Grand Forks man who had led police on a high-speed chase through the city late Friday and into early Saturday. UND Police Officer Jerad Braaten fired his weapon into a pickup outside Altru Hospital after the driver, David James Elliott, 41, “accelerated rapidly,” ramming into a Grand Forks County sheriff’s deputy’s squad car early Saturday, officials said. Braaten, who has been an officer with the department since October 2013, declined to comment on the incident when reached by phone Wednesday
