VANCOUVER, Wash. (AP) - More than 300 people attended a Tuesday night hearing in Vancouver on a planned oil terminal.
The $100 million terminal planned by Tesoro Corp. and Savage Companies would take oil arriving from North Dakota by train and ship it to West Coast refineries.
Opponents wearing red T-shirts out-numbered supporters. Foes repeated some of the same arguments used by opponents to new coal-train terminals - shipping risks and global climate change from burning fossil fuels.
The companies say the project will meet regulations. They hope to begin construction by the end of next year at the Port of Vancouver.
The purpose of the hearing was to help determine the scope of an environmental impact statement for the Washington Energy Facility Site Evaluation Council.
