TIOGA, N.D. – A pump that failed caused tanks to overflow and spill about 770 barrels, or 32,340 gallons, of produced water Tuesday, but officials report the spill was contained on the location.
Hess Bakken Investments II LLC reported the incident Tuesday at a tank battery in Mountrail County about seven miles north of Tioga. The company said the spill was contained and recovered on the location, according to the North Dakota Oil and Gas Division.
A state inspector has been on site and will monitor the cleanup.
Produced water is a waste byproduct of oil production.
