GRAND FORKS - Grand Forks’ Kmart is among a few regional Sears or Kmart stores slated to close in late March 2019, parent company Sears Holdings Corp. announced Friday, Dec. 28.
The store at Grand Cities Mall is one of 80 locations across the United States that will close in spring, according to a Sears news release. The closures will affect both Sears and Kmart stores. The move is part of the parent company’s “processes to accelerate its strategic transformation and facilitate its financial restructuring,” Sears officials said in the release.
Other regional Kmart stores scheduled to close are in Rochester, Minn., and Rapid City, S.D. A Sears store at the Mall of America in Bloomington, Minn., is also slated for closure.
The company on Dec. 27 informed store associates of the planned closure.
Earlier this year, Sears closed a Kmart at Devils Lake, following the closure of another store in Thief River Falls, Minn., in November 2017.
