The North Dakota Petroleum Council has a new communications manager, according to a press release.
New Town native Tessa Sandstrom joined the NDPC on Monday, Council President Ron Ness said Friday. She will manage the council's internal and external communications and coordinate various programs and events, including the NDPC's Oil Can! campaign to educate the public on effects of North Dakota's oil boom.
"I am excited about the opportunity to join the North Dakota Petroleum Council," Sandstrom said in the release. "Having come from the area, I understand both the challenges and opportunities the area faces, and I look forward to working with key stakeholders to find solutions to these challenges while continuing the region's unprecedented growth."
Sandstrom previously served as a member of Sen. John Hoeven's senior staff in Washington, D.C., according to the release. She also managed communications for his 2008 campaign for the North Dakota governor race and the 2010 campaign for U.S. Senate.
Ness is excited to have Sandstrom on the team.

"She's just very talented and has good experience in communications," he said.
Sandstrom is a graduate from the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, according to the release.
