Dickinson's 30 day moratorium on special events does not include everything scheduled this October. Residents wishing to have some fun can still participate in the following events happening this weekend.
Spooktacular Pumpkin Carving Party
Friday, Oct. 2 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., the West River Community Center will be hosting a pumpkin carving party.
Families and individuals will be set up in socially distanced spaces and provided with paint, carving tools and stencils to use, but they must bring their own pumpkin.
There will be a contest for those wishing to participate and prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places. The pumpkins in the contest will be selected by judges and posted to the center's Facebook page, where social media users can vote for their favorite.
Fall into Downtown
Several businesses in downtown Dickinson will be participating in Fall into Downtown on Saturday, Oct. 3 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Participating retail stores are Aloha Tan, Faith Expressions, GG's Little Pink House, JP Frameshop, Paw and Claw Pet Palace, Rattle and Roll Baby Boutique, Salt of the Earth, Salt Kitchen and Co., Special Occasions, Stanza D'Amore, Studio 9, Sweet Melange and The Browery.
Participating restaurants include Blue 42, Brickhouse Grille and C&K Sweet Shoppe and Coffee. Participating bars are the Esquire, the Eagles and the Rock.
These businesses will have in-store specials, sidewalk sales, vendors and food.
Blue Hawk Stampede Rodeo
The Blue Hawk Stampede Rodeo arrived in Dickinson Thursday and will continue through the weekend at Stark County Fairgrounds. Admission is free for Dickinson State University students who bring their student ID. For all others, the cost is $10 for adults and $5 for students. Tickets can be purchased at the gate.
Piano Recital and Workshop
Saturday, Oct. 3 at 12:15 pm, Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Dickinson will host a piano workshop by Dianna Anderson, PhD, followed by a recital at 1:30 p.m. Both events are free and open to the public.
Anderson is part of the faculty at Minot State University.
1st Annual Ice Breaker Hockey Tournament
Saturday, Oct. 3 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., West River Ice Center will host the 1st Annual Ice Breaker Hockey Tournament.
Food, drinks and beer will be available for purchase all day at the concession stands.
The tournament is a double-elimination tournament and will be in a three on three format with no goalies. Each game will consist of two 10-minute halves.
The proceeds for the event will go to the Dickinson Hockey Club.
Southwest Speedway Oktoberfest
The 2020 racing season ends this weekend with Oktoberfest. Friday, Oct. 2, races will be held at Dacotah Speedway; the following day, at Southwest Speedway.
Friday, grandstands open at 6 p.m. and racing starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20 for adults and free for kids 12 and under.
Saturday, grandstands open at 4 p.m. and racing starts at 6 p.m. Tickets cost $16 for adults and $5 for kids ages 7-12.
