Southwest Water Authority Board members want to ensure residential water supply takes precedent over industrial use, they said at a meeting Monday at the Elks Lodge.
They reviewed a draft of a State Water Commission Water Depot policy intended to do just that.
But Mary Massad, Southwest Water Authority manager and CEO, told the board there should be little impact if the draft passes.
The policy states that "domestic water supply has priority over industrial water supply," including during times of a drought, and the stipulation must be evident in water service contracts with industrial users.
"That has always been what we do," Massad said. "I don't see any impact, as far the Southwest Water Authority goes, or with the water, or what we are doing or anticipate doing. I just thought it would be good to put this on the agenda."

Tim Freije, Southwest Water Pipeline project manager agrees, "There shouldn't be any issues that affect what you guys are doing here."
The board gave Massad approval to attend the State Water Commission meeting on June 13, where she plans to speak in favor of the policy.
Work on the Dickinson Water Treatment Plant is also moving along, Massad added.
"Most of the work is complete," she said. "There are a few minor items they're working on. We're moving forward and think we are close to completion."
