The sponsor of a bill that would have given free lunch to all public school students in North Dakota is disappointed after the legislation was gutted.
Hunger Solutions Minnesota and Great Plains Food Bank see SNAP and other nutrition programs in the farm bill as vital to keeping people fed, along with food banks, food shelves and other options.
Cass-Clay Creamery recently delivered more than 24,000 units of Giving Cow, a shelf-stabilized milk, to the Great Plains Food Bank — part of an announced donation of 82,000 units.
The Great Plains Food Bank anticipates a 1 million pound distribution shortfall this fiscal year, equivalent to 800,000 meals.

On Tuesday, the AMEN Food Pantry posted a picture of its near empty shelves on Facebook. The people of Dickinson responded by organizing donation drives and giving nearly 1,000 pounds of food to help those who are less fortunate. BISMARCK — Fargo-based Great Plains Food Bank is planning to open a $1.5 million regional center in Bismarck-Mandan next summer to boost service to charitable feeding programs in central and western North Dakota.
FARGO — There's a cornfield right in the heart of Fargo. Maybe you've noticed it east of Interstate 29, just north of Main Avenue. Employees of Case New Holland planted it to help feed the hungry. A group called "GleaND" is picking it for the Great Plains Food Bank in Fargo, which will distribute it to hungry people around the region.
BISMARCK — North Dakota and Minnesota would see some of the largest percentage decreases in households receiving food stamp benefits under a proposed federal rule tightening eligibility requirements, according to a study released Thursday, Sept. 5.
