Rock and Walk 2020 returns to Dickinson for fourth annual year
The fourth annual Rock and Walk 2020 will take place this weekend in Dickinson as a memorial event for bereaved families that have experienced a pregnancy, infant or child loss.
This year’s walk will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at Phil Patterson Memorial Bandshell and due to COVID-19, the walk will be much shorter than previous years, Co-Chapter Leader Rebecca Zent of North Dakota Chapter of the TEARS Foundation said.
The main priority of hosting this walk is to “inspire hope, honor a child (and) celebrate a life,” Zent said. Losing a child is one of the toughest experiences a parent can go through but standing together may help to build a sense of unity and comfort during that tragic time.
“This event let’s families know they are not alone and we are all in this together,” Zent said. “This event is important because it allows families to honor the lives of their babies gone too soon.”
Losing a child may shut people out from one another, but it’s important to stick together, she noted.
“The heart of our Rock and Walk is to let bereaved families know they are not alone. We strive to build awareness about pregnancy, infant and child loss by bringing the community together to support these families,” she said, adding, “As we rock in chairs or walk laps together, we honor the children whose names appear on butterflies lining the path and are reminded that we can find hope. We celebrate their lives by coming together as a community and rallying around these families. We hope you will join us in supporting these families and honoring their children.”
The North Dakota Chapter of The TEARS Foundation aims to raise awareness on this touchy subject and spread the word about what this organization is all about through events such as the annual Rock and Walk. Though the COVID-19 pandemic has delayed events for many organizations, the foundation hopes to tentatively host the Cheers for TEARS event for November 2020.
“I encourage anyone that has had a loss of a pregnancy, infant or a child to attend as we honor the children whose names appear on the butterflies lining the path and are reminded that we can find hope,” Zent noted.
The foundation also hosts “Pregnancy and Infant Loss Support Group” at 6:30 p.m. at Lime Rock Resources every third Tuesday of each month in Dickinson, which is open to all families that have suffered a pregnancy or infant loss.
The walk is $10 to join. For more information about the Rock and Walk 2020, visit the Rock and Walk 2020 Facebook page or to learn more about The TEARS Foundation at https://thetearsfoundation.org/northdakota/.
