SOUTH HEART —The South Heart Pheasant Country Golf Course reconstruction is well under way. The new 18-hole course will have paved golf cart paths, new drainage and sprinkler systems, new grass, additional bunkers and more.
The construction project began in late May of this year and is expected to be finished sometime in 2023. Frequent precipitation this summer has mildly delayed the project. As of July 21, the hole nine bunker is almost done. Hole 18 green is being reconstructed and reshaped by Cordova Construction, and hole eight’s green is undergoing drain tile installation. The water hazard on hole 11 is also going to be expanded.
Hlebechuk Construction is removing old cart paths and replacing them with cement pathways and rotodarian work (prepping the soil for a seed bed) is being done on all playing areas.

Pheasant Country Golf Course opened around 1996. It is over 6,370 yards with a par of 71. Prior to its reconstruction, the course’s sprinkler system was 30 years old and was at the end of its life. A new irrigation system and pump station will be installed to water the entire course. The old sprinklers only watered the fairways.
Two holes have also been changed. Hole two is now par three and hole three will be a par five.

Over the years, Golf Course management has battled the harsh effects of North Dakota’s weather, which has made it challenging to maintain the greenery and architecture of the course.

“It needed an overhaul,” Kirby Robb, Pheasant Country Golf Course General Manager said. “The members and players are excited for it to be done. We are going to do our best to make it a beautiful golf course. Our goal is to make it the nicest golf course in western North Dakota.”
Robb declined to comment regarding how the project was funded and how much it is expected to cost, but he says his Heart River girls golf team can’t wait to start their season next year and break it in.
Upon completion, the course will be open to the public to enjoy. It will remain closed for the 2022 season, but the Golfers Edge Pro Shop and Driving Range are still open. The Tee Shots Bar and Grill is also closed, however the 2022 Youth Clinics were open for sign ups this summer. For tee time reservations or Youth Clinic information call 701-677-4653.
