Dickinson, ND – December 12, 2019 – Larry Bares, Southwest Water Authority (SWA) Chairperson representing the City of Dickinson was honored with the 2019 Upper Missouri Distinguished Service Award at the 56th Annual Joint North Dakota and Upper Missouri Water Convention and Irrigation Workshop in Bismarck on December 4, 2019. Larry’s passion is water and he is a dedicated advocate for the development, supply and access to nature’s most precious resource. Since being elected to SWA’s Board of Directors in 2002, Larry has played a proactive role in development of rural water in southwest North Dakota with the construction of the Southwest Pipeline Project. Larry understands the importance of quality water and is passionate about bringing safe, reliable drinking water to the citizens of southwest North Dakota. He has remained steadfast in communicating the importance of North Dakota’s water resources for the livelihood and enjoyment of its residents. Brian Roth, Southwest Water Authority (SWA) Director representing Grant County was honored with the 2019 Water Wheel Award at the 56th Annual Joint North Dakota and Upper Missouri Water Convention and Irrigation Workshop in Bismarck on December 5, 2019. The Water Wheel Award is given to someone who demonstrates a commitment to protect and manage North Dakota’s water resources. Brian saw the poor quality water in Grant County and knew there had to be a way to get quality water for his family and neighbors. He began his mission to connect Grant County to the Southwest Water Pipeline Project by knocking on neighbors’ doors collecting signatures and signups. In 1992, Brian was elected to serve on SWA’s Board of Directors, where he continues to represent Grant County. For more than 28 years Brian has been persistent in his efforts to bring quality water to all of southwest North Dakota. His dedication to the water community and relentless commitment to providing quality water to those in Grant County and all of southwest North Dakota have ultimately improved the quality of life in the lives of so many.
