The North Dakota State Board of Higher Education's Budget and Finance Committee will hear a request on Feb. 18 by Dickinson State University to begin fundraising for a new softball field.
The project, which would include construction of a new, synthetic turf-based field, is estimated to cost $913,000. The university has $306,808 in extraordinary repair funds to use for the project. The remaining $606,192 will need to be donated. The university estimates the project will be complete in the fall of 2021, pending donations.
The university will also seek authorization from the board to seek approval from the interim legislative budget section.
According to SBHE policy, institutions must obtain authority prior to construction of projects exceeding $700,000 and must match their extraordinary repair funds by two using other funds, including donations.
The university's softball team currently plays on the Dickinson High School field.
